Synopsis:
Gorman's wife is expecting a baby, and she gets a craving for some of the Rapunzel plant that she can see in the luscious walled garden next to their humble cottage. Her husband steals some for her, but is caught by Malignia, the sorceress who owns the garden.

She forces him to promise that he will hand over his unborn daughter to her when the girl reaches the age of twelve. Gorman is unable to stop the bargain being fulfilled, and Malignia shuts Rapunzel away at the top of an impregnable tower. The only means of reaching the prisoner is by climbing up her long beautiful hair, and only Malignia knows the magic spell that will make Rapunzel let it down.

Everything seems hopeless, but the young Prince Florimond, who has fallen in love with Rapunzel, overhears the sorceress's spell and manages to climb up the hair into the castle. This makes Malignia so furious that she casts Rapunzel out into the desert, and blinds Prince Florimond.
